Welcome to KAS Art Studio!

Hello! I thought as I have now set up my website and my Etsy shop is due to open in 11 days (eek!) I might as well go all in and start a blog as well!

So, a bit about me; I have always been creative since I can remember, whether it was drawing, painting or building dolls houses (despite having a Barbie house in my bedroom!). I studied Fine Art at Cardiff University, specialising in Sculpture. From there I trained to be a secondary school Art teacher and then became a Head of Department, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

I have lived and taught in a variety of places; Coventry, where I met my husband, Germany, and then Reading, before finally settling in sunny Surbiton in London. For the last nine years I have been a full-time mum to my three crazy children whilst thinking about pursuing my dream of becoming a working artist.

I took part in Inktober in 2020 and discovered a love of drawing in pen. Afterwards, I built a body of work with the aim of setting up my business. And here I am!

I love combining washes of watercolour with the marks and textures created by pen. I find inspiration from nature, whether it is exotic birds, dense foliage or armoured insects. There is so much I want to draw, I actually keep a list (honestly!).

I have so many ideas and plans for this business of mine, buzzing around my head, and I cannot wait to see where this new venture takes me! (Yes, I keep an ‘ideas list’ too!).

My Etsy Shop is opening on Tuesday 6th September (which I am VERY excited about!) where initially there will be a selection of Giclee prints from my Gallery page. The plan is to expand this over time as well as include originals and commissions! Take a peek and come back and visit on the 6th September!
